Submission Requirements

Content
The story must be written in the first person and be true. It must exemplify a proverb, quotation, and/or concept. Although we accept “inspirational” stories, they need not be so. The quality of the writing will count as much as the interest of the story. And of course, this is original work written by you.

The structure of the story is open to your creativity. Here is one possible format:

  • statement of problem or situation
  • options considered
  • applicable proverbs, quotations and/or concepts suggesting different courses of action
  • your intuition about the matter
  • option tried
  • results (good and/or bad)

The proverbs, quotations and/or concepts need not be explicitly stated in the story. If they are not, append the proverbs, quotations, and/or concepts that you think apply at the end of the story--no more than three of each. (No more than two of each will probably imply a better, more focussed story.) Choose from the ones that are supplied on this site, or offer your own.

Length
The story must be no longer than 1,500 words. There is no minimum length. The preferred length is under 1,000 words.

Submission Format
Please submit your story and related proverbs, quotations and concepts in the body of an e-mail message to editor@sapphire.com. Do not send attached files.
